Imperial College London, in partnership with the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), has received an £8 million grant from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to establish a Centre for Synthetic Biology and Innovation.
This grant is one of the EPSRC 2008 Science and Innovation Awards. The money will be used to establish a physical space, to refurbish laboratories, and to recruit academic staff and postdoctoral research fellows.
Initially, researchers at the Centre will focus on developing standard systems and specifications to create these parts - aims closely aligned with the SynBioStandards Network activities. Close ties between Imperial and the BIOS Centre at LSE will promote outreach activities and interdisciplinary discussions on economic, ethical, legal and political issues relevant to the emerging field of synthetic biology.
Congratulations to our Network colleagues at Imperial on this impressive achievement!
